Luxury Lighting in the Bathroom

A bathroom depends on having versatile lighting because of the activities that take place there. We know that a bare bulb hanging over the sink does not do much for us in terms of the luxury look but what is luxury in bathroom lighting?

Well, I think you need the following

• a well-lit makeup mirror, preferably lit from behind but not shining directly in your eyes so that you can see to shave or do your make up but it doesn't blind you. You can get some gorgeous lighted mirrors specially for bathroom these days or go for the dressing room look with a row on bulbs down each side of a large mirror.
• an overhead light that allows you to see in general in the bathroom (ambient light)
  
• ability to dim the lights so that you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the bath tub without feeling like you are under interrogation. If you don't have a dimmer switch or the budget to get one installed you can have the same effect by using lighted candles when you bathe (though you will probably find that the dimmer switch works out cheaper in the long run)
  

What is Luxury Lighting?

It is easier to say what luxury lighting is not than what it is.

It is definitely not the bare light bulbs that I lived with in some rooms for far too long until I found the right lamp shades!

It is not cheap paper or plastic shades - you can get both paper and plastic lamp shades which look a million dollars but they probably cost a little more than a few dollars and they have a designer look to them. (See finding the right lamp shades)

It is not fake antique lamps of any description unless they match the quality of the original. Just compare the quality of a genuine Tiffany lamp with the cheapest reproduction and you'll see what I mean.

I suppose you can say that

• luxury lighting enhances your room - it has the right design to go with your other decorating choices and looks like a part of the design
  
• it adds appropriate light to create the right atmosphere and level of light for the function of the room
• it has a touch of quality about it - it looks expensive even if it isn't

Sometimes lighting gets forgotten about until the last minute but if you want a truly luxurious room then you can't afford to neglect this element of your decor. Get the right lighting, lamps and lamp shades and you'll have a great start in nay room.
